ABOUT ABOUT

Sue Roe’s new book In Montmartre: Picasso, Matisse and Modernism in Paris 1900-10 uses the famous artists’ village in Paris as the backdrop for creative rivalries and synergies that helped produce some of the most iconic works of art today. It is a remarkable group portrait of the men and women on the cusp of fame and immortality who profoundly changed the arts of painting, sculpture, dance, music, literature, and fashion. Joshua Wolf Shenk’s book, Powers of Two: How Relationships Drive Creativity, examines the creative collaboration and inspiration found in iconic pairs such as Matisse and Picasso, the Beatles, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, and many more.

6:30 p.m. Enjoy a tour of art by Montmartre artists Matisse, Picasso, Brancusi, and Modigliani as well as other creative pairs in the DMA’s collection.
