Inspired by the textiles in the exhibition, Waxed: Batik from Java, join us to learn the history and techniques of Batik fabric making. You will choose your own “urban” design from the surroundings in the Cultural District and learn how to dye fabric, draw in wax and create your finished designed fabric sample. Local artists, Alexandria Clifton and Kyli Brook who created the touch samples in the Waxed: Batik from Java exhibit, will lead you in the Batik making process. You will take a tour of the gallery with the instructors before finding your design and going into the studio. You will leave with a Batik fabric sample that you create yourself!
Included in your ticket is:
- Tour of Waxed: Batik from Java
- A finished Batik fabric sample you designed. We will give you a list of fun DIY projects you can do with your fabric, frame it, wrap a gift, make a pillow and many more!
- List of materials and instructions to help you keep creating at home!
Class size is limited and registration is required.
