In The Improbability of Love, a mesmerizing first novel by Hannah Rothschild, an obscure 18th-century French painting careens a woman into the secretive operations of the London art world. Rothschild is a film director and the first woman chair of the National Gallery in London.

6:30 p.m. Before the event, enjoy a tour of 18th-century French art led by Nicole Myers, The Lillian and James H. Clark Curator of Painting and Sculpture, DMA.
