ABOUT ABOUT

In partnership with the William P. Clements Center for Southwest Studies at Southern Methodist University

Texas literary icon Larry McMurtry releases his new novel, The Last Kind Words Saloon, at this not-to-be-missed event! McMurtry will discuss his new work, his creative process, and his passion for book collecting, taking the stage with Diana Ossana, author and long-time collaborator with McMurtry, who co-wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for Brokeback Mountain. Skip Hollandsworth, Executive Editor in Chief of Texas Monthly, will moderate the conversation. Actor Jeremy Schwartz will read short excerpts from the novel.

McMurtry’s first novel in five years echoes many of his earlier works, including his Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove. The Last Kind Words Saloon is a “fictional retelling of the friendship between Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, set against an Old West backdrop of barrooms, brothels, and cattle ranches.” —New York Times
